Accident of Wife 25th April and Fracture of Tibia Bone Just Below Knee on
It was 25th April’25 6PM. I came from office on official vehicle and met my wife downstairs who was with maid and in hurry to go for temple on her scooter to pay tribute God Shiva at nearby temple. Though, I offered to go with driver on 4 wheeler but she ignored me. She was in hurry as we had to collect our daughter from Tuition at 6:15PM and later go to dhyaan kendra of Bramh Kumari in sector 37 which was 10 minutes walk from our residence.
After unbuttoning the cloths, I straightway went to washroom to get freshen up. Internal telephone kept on ringing but I ignored being on washroom but immediately got a call from my driver on mobile. Driver told me madam has an accident in front of colony. I was shocked and asked him twice that whether it was my wife. He said in affirmative voice. Immediately, I rushed to main gate of colony and saw a crowd at gate from distance. My heart was pumping like anything while I was running to reach the colony gate.
When I arrived there my wife was sitting on chair that was kept at gate and she had wounds all over her leg. Although, she had pain but she was not weeping due her strong power to bear anything. I consoled her and told to her that it will be ok and nothing serious is going to happen. Now, my mind was running with full speed about what is next step should be or us. I asked her to stand up on her own as I wanted to see the quantum of damage. She has shown pain and so I was suspicious for something to worry about. Other residents, who surrounded there by then, suggested to go nearby hospital (Santokh Hospital) for treatment. I asked my driver to bring the car and we boarded on that and rushed to the Santokh Hospital.
On arrival at hospital we took wheelchair an she was not able walk by now as swelling was getting serious by now. Went straight to day care bed of the hospital and then told the nurses about what happened. They asked me get the patient registered by making initial payment of Rs 400/- at the counter. My wife was crying but doctor did not arrive for 20 minutes. They filled our registration form and asked us to submit declaration whether we want any police complaint or not. We told them that we are interested in treatment only and not police complaint. So they asked us give in written statement that you do not to report to the police. So I have written the statement the paper given by them and signed.
Soon, they have given an injection (probably of pain and tetanus) and few tablets. They have applied some antiseptic medicine on wounds also. My wife was continuously complaining about pain going from knee towards thighs. They took X-Ray of knee after doctor advised them. Now, we were worried about the treatment. I have seen on the board that there is some orthopedic doctor and so I was hopeful of getting proper treatment. Still, I asked the nurses about who the doctor is looking now. They told he is physician. I asked them where is that orthopedic doctor whose name is displayed on the board who is supposed to be here in hospital at this time and they told that he is away for some work. Doctor already advised to apply ice at knee to get relief from pain but no relief.
After some doctor came again and X-Ray was shown to him and he declared nothing to worry as there no fracture. I was relieved after listening this. My wife tried to stand her foot as she feared of some stiffness on knee which was our mistake that we realized later. Anyway, doctor asked us to keep doing ice pack on pain point specially around knee and you can go to home there is nothing much to worry. We came back at our residence and wife climbed on stairs also with our help but she put her injured leg also on ground and that should not have been done had we knew about fracture. They have recommended few medicine for pain and antiseptic to apply some on wound. I bought the prescribed medicine and taken as suggested.
In night, pain continued although we were doing ice application throughout. She could barely sleep in night. In the morning, I saw there heavy swelling on whole right leg. In night itself, I had decided to consult some orthopedic tomorrow or go to bigger hospital for proper diagnosis.
Morning 26th April, I was trying to find some orthopedic online for consultation. Meanwhile, wife told that there is PGI doctor in our neighborhood whose daughter was also studying in same school where our daughter was studying. We used to meet almost daily while dropping our child in bus in morning. My wife and wife of doctor were well known to us. Being Saturday, it was holiday for the PGI doctor and so they called us to their residence to see what can be done.
Immediately, I arrived their residence to bring the doctor to my house on my vehicle. I was so confident that he will come our house see my wife as we were very friendly. But on arrival to his house, he asked my for X-Ray which I did not carry. He told me that it is not possible now to visit your wife at your residence as he is in hurry to attend some exam as examiner. Anyway, I asked him to give me 5 minutes to bring the X-Ray and Video of leg of my wife. I returned back with X-Ray and a video of leg. After analyzing the X-Ray, he told me that there is fracture in bone at upper end of Tibia bone. I was shocked to here this!!
Doctor asked me to go to PGI and he will arrange there someone to help out. Since we have seen the condition of PGI, so I was skeptical about help that we will get there in PGI. So, I told him that we can go to private hospital MAX also if we get treatment there. He sensed our fear for PGI as it was Saturday and main medical staff may not be available in PGI. He dialed someone (an orthopedic doctor) in MAX Hospital Mohali (nearest good private hospital) asked him to help out us. But being Saturday that doctor also excused and told there is some function there so that only resident doctors were available. We sensed the unavailability specialist in MAX hospital also. But he asked us to go there you get some help.
On return to home I told my wife that you have fracture and we need to go to some specialist orthopedics. I just looked as my list empaneled doctor in central government to consult and get recommendation to admit my wife in CGMS empaneled MAX Hospital. So, it was Dr Aseem Goyal at Sector 27 Chandigarh who was on our panel to get recommendation. I just dialed his number and they told that they are available after 10AM. I arrived at Doctor Clinic Prime Health Care at Sector 27 with X-Ray and prescription given by Santokh Hospital. I told the doctor everything and our intention to go to MAX hospital and we have come here for get recommendation from you.
But Dr Aseem Goyal was quite experienced and sensed there is immediate to treat patient as anything adverse can make thing worse. He explained us everything after examining the X-Ray. He told that such type of fracture can only be diagnosed by Orthopedics only and that why doctor at Santokh Hospital could not detect it. I asked him, if you can treat this then we may carry on the treatment here itself. He said in affirmative as he was MS Ortho with experience for many years at prestigious hospital like AIIMS.
I told Doctor to go ahead what ever is required. If X-Ray is required again them please do it. As there was wound in ankle and knee thus he took X-Ray of both joints again at his clinic. After 15 minutes we were gain with new X-Ray inside his chamber. He explained us everything that there is fracture in upper end of Tibia bone below knee and there no damage at ankle joint. He told that we need to immediately apply cast (plaster) on knee to avoid any further damage as more damage may lead to operation. As of now now there is no need to operate. He explained that if you go for operation then recovery time may reduce but you will suffer a lot as location of fracture is main joint. We asked him what are the after effect on full recovery. He told your joint can be like it was before as it is impossible to make as God has made us. So you may not able to run like athlete but normal works, walking, slow running will not affect.
Finally, he put cast (plaster) from thigh till ankle with 5 degree tilt at knee to make comfortable while recovery. He has prescribed some medicines for faster recovery with supplements. He has also guided us about food that should be taken during recovery. More proteins and less fat.
Doctor advised us not to put any load on damaged leg. On safer side he recommended to carry out CT-Scan for checking the minute detail and asked us not to bring patient for showing the reports.
