Accident of Wife 25th April and Fracture of Tibia Bone Just Below Knee Continued…
So, I arrived at the doctor’s clinic immediately after I got the CT Scan report. He has inspected the report and told me that there is nothing to worry about, as treatment was given as it was expected, and nothing much to worry about.
My wife was not able to sleep due to tension as bone will fix or not. SO I decided to go to the doctor to tell him about our fear. In addition, she also had anxiety, and the treatment given by another doctor was not effective.
I explained everything to the Orthopaedic doctor Aseem Goyal, and he suggested taking a second opinion as we were suspecting of ligament fracture (PCL) also in the knee, which can only be fixed after an operation.
Second opinion was in our mind, but I did not tell my wife as she becomes anxious and has a sleepless night, and no sleeping medicine works then. So, I decided to go to the PGI and contacted my doctor friend at PGI Chandigarh, Dr Narendra Kumar, who is an Associate Professor in the Oncology Department. He has asked to come after 2 days as he has an appointment outside due to the exams of junior doctors.
Anyway, I went to PGI on Monday alone at the time when he asked me to come. I arrived there and he had already spoken about me to his friend was Orthopaedics in PGI, Dr Sandeep Patel. So on my arrival, he took me to Dr Patel, and he examined the CT Scan and X-Ray. Without taking much time, he told me that PCL is damaged in the knee and there is an urgent need to operate and asked to get admitted. He wrote a short note to the doctor available at the Trauma centre and spoke personally that so-and-so person is coming with the patient, so get admitted. I requested him to wait for a day as I have to tell my wife and make her ready emotionally for the operation. Then he asked me to bring the patient to OPD tomorrow to his OPD chamber, and the rest of the things will be carried out there. Additionally, he said that he is not going the operate as he is leaving for Nasik for some official work. So Dr Chauhan will do the operation and he will request him to do. He said that Dr Chauhan is a good doctor as well.
I came back home as tension was evident on my face. My wife is good at identifying my face. She sensed on me and asked me to tell the matter while I pretended that nothing happened. But I had to tell. When I told her about this then she alongwith my daughter, started weeping loudly. I consoled her, but nothing worked, and I was also tense. She dialled a few numbers, told them about this bad news, but I asked her not to panic, as it is not final.
Further, I have decided to contact MAX Hospital Mohali for further advice. When I asked the front desk person at MAX then he asked me what is matter then I told him that I wanted to get a second opinion about a bone fracture. He asked me to go to a room number and meet so-and-so doctor, there is no need of any slip. I arrived there, and the doctor has seen the CT Scan and X-RAY and is not sure about anything. They told Dr Sen is not here now and he will come tomorrow (Probably he was a senior Orthopaedic), so you come tomorrow with the patient for a complete check. But I was not in the mood to come here again for this, as I had to go to some other doctor for further follow-up, who was Dr Chauhan (a doctor in PGI).
In the evening, I called our neighbour, Dr Chauhan, as I suspected he was the same doctor that Dr Sandeep Patel was referring to. It was also required that if he is going to operate, then it is better to meet him first, otherwise it may not be good. So, he asked me to come at 7:30 PM.
I arrived at his residence with all the reports. I narrated him the complete story from the beginning, including what happened after he suggested and also about my encounter with Dr Sandeep Patel. He told me there seems to be PCL damage, but he needs to see the bare knee by opening the plaster and get an MRI done for final judgment on PCL.
Dr Chauhan spoke to Dr Sandeep Patel about our case. Now I have come to know Dr Chauhan is the same doctor whom Dr Sandeep Patel was referring. Also, Dr Chauhan is quite senior to Dr Sandeep Patel. I never expected he would be so senior, as he was our neighbour, I used to look at him like a friend. Anyway, he suggested me to go to the trauma centre and meet the so-and-so doctor and told room number to cut the plaster. He also directed the doctor to carry out this tomorrow on our arrival there. After this, he asked us to come to his office at PGI.
The next day, while going to PGI at 10 AM, I messaged Dr Narendra (my friend) and Dr Sandeep about what happened. Dr Narendra’s reply came, and he has shown disapproval as to why I had gone to Dr Chauhan directly, as asked me to do whatever I want. Shocked to see this message as I did not have relations with him professionally, but he was my schoolmate. He should have avoided this childish behaviour, that why I have contacted their senior. I tried to explain to him over WhatsApp, but I didn’t get a reply back.
On arrival at PGI, we went to the room as we were told. There, the doctor was not available, and the assistant refused to remove the plaster. After 15 minutes, we found the doctor, and he directed the assistant to cut the plaster.
After this, we straightaway went to the office of Dr Chauhan to show him, but he was not there. His peon told us that he is coming in a couple of minutes. Within 10-15 minutes, Dr Chauhan arrived with his 2 assistants. He carefully examined the knee after folding and straightening. He asked us to take an MRI of the knee and give the CD at my residence in the evening.
We went to Sector MRI centre, which is also on the Central Government panel (It is cheaper for us as well as there are chances to get a refund also from the office). At the MRI, there was a long wait, and they gave us time at 5 PM, and they will call 30 minutes before our turn. So go home and relax. After waiting there for 1 hour, we came back home and took a rest and arrived at the scheduled time. The MRI procedure was conducted, and I was also inside the room. It took 15-20 minutes in the machine. A lot of unpleasant, irritating sounds from the Machine were coming.
